She loves Club Penguin and is a frequent visitor to the site. Slowly my daughter is gathering all the Puffles and clothes she enjoys and along the way is learning about the importance of money. There is a growing amount of merchandise at a price now related to this online game which has grown rapidly since Club Penguin Live in 2005. Club Penguin is a (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) involving a virtual world containing a range of online games and activities. Players use cartoon penguin-avatars and play in a winter-set virtual world. By 2007Club Penguin has over 12 million user accounts. While free memberships are available, revenue is predominantly raised through paid memberships which allow players to access a range of additional features, (such as the ability to purchase virtual clothing, furniture, and in-game pets called “puffles” for their penguins through the use of in-game currency. The game was designed for ages 6-14. A major focus of the developers has been on child safety, with a number of features introduced to the game to facilitate this including offering an “Ultimate Safe Chat” mode, whereby users select their comments from a menu; filtering that prevents swearing and the …
